Colorado Mountain School (CMS), a guiding outfitter based in Boulder, Colorado, needed to pivot during the COVID-19 pandemic. As their winter season was approaching, CMS came to us to help them create an online, membership-based avalanche awareness platform.
The main focus was on creating an avalanche awareness clinic video. This was a short film that took their traditional in-person clinic content and merged it with engaging visuals, interviews, and presentations. View the full video here.
“Colorado Mountain School is known for its free 1-hour avalanche awareness clinics at mountaineering shops, breweries, etc. across Colorado’s Front Range for over a decade, providing valuable education to backcountry skiers and splitboarders, snowshoers, snowmobilers and mountaineers. In recent years, these clinics draw big crowds, allowing CMS to connect with hundreds of potential students at a time. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our ability to host these events in-person, we had to pivot to continue offering this service. We created an online, video-based course with the help of Yellow Tent Nomads. The result has easily surpassed our expectations. With over 2,300 registrations to our online clinic in just a few months, we’ve practically doubled our typical season enrollment and reached students around the globe. Even when in-person events return, the online clinic will play a heavy role in our outreach efforts due to the efficiency and almost limitless reach.”
We then helped to create branding and further video assets to help CMS launch their online learning platform “The Snow Pack.” This was a groundbreaking initiative in the guiding industry that helped mesh online and in-person learning.
